No Place for Hate at LRPK!

Lucy Read participates in AISD's No Place for Hate campaign. No Place for Hate®  was developed by the Anti-Defamation League to organize schools to work together and develop projects that enhance the appreciation of diversity and foster harmony amongst diverse groups.

We always try to promote kindness and compassion in our students. Our campus makes that a little easier to understand by encouraging our preschoolers to fill each others' "buckets" with kind words and helpful actions. We'll read How Full Is Your Bucket? For Kids by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer.

Reading is Fundamental!

Hello Lucy Readers,
We'll enjoy our first Reading Is Fundamental distribution of the year starting Nov. 10th!
BookSpring's RIF program is working to ensure that all children have access to books. It motivates young children to read by working with them, their parents, and community members to make reading a fun and beneficial part of everyday life.
Every child will get to take home a book...for keeps!! Hooray!!

The theme for this distribution is  "Teddy Bears!" We'll enjoy a reading, or rereading of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen

Falling in love with Autumn!

Hello Lucy Readers,
We've been talking about the important changes we see in the fall.

Let's Look at Autumn by Sarah Schuette

and Animals in the Fall by Martha Rustad
will help us learn more about that topic.  We'll talk about the important characteristics of non-fiction books: they help us learn information, they usually have photos instead of illustrations, and they have built in guides to help you find what you're looking for.

Smells like Pumpkin Soup!

Hi there Lucy Readers!
It's that time of year again. The weather is beginning to cool (well...cool for Austin temperatures), and pumpkins are ripe for harvesting.
Let's enjoy Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper!!  (click on the title for an amazon review of the book!)

We'll meet a trio of friends that are very good at sharing. Cat, Squirrel, and Duck live together, play music together, and make their daily pumpkin soup together. They each have a special job to do and life is peaceful and happy for them. One day Duck decides he wants to try a different job and the three friends quarrel. Duck runs away in a huff and Cat and Squirrel are left to feel lonely and lost without their friend. We'll see if their friendship can help them come together once more.

It's Story Time!

We'll be kicking off our story time visits with The Wonderful Book, a very wonderful book!
Leonid Gore treats us to a sweet story about animals that find a book but don't seem to know what it's for. A small and very curious boy shows up and saves the day.

Hello Again!

It's good to be back in the library! Our students started school on Monday and they have been touring the school in hesitant, slow moving lines. I love it when they stop by to say hello. Their little faces say it all; everyone loves the library!

The theme for the new school year is "We are Growing Readers and Writers Right from the Start!" We can definitely make that happen in the library!
